I am 45, now what??

As I begin to realize that at 45, I am not able to recover and do the things I used to do in my 20’s I realize there are some things I can do to help my body and bones.  I am a very active person, I have been this way all my life.  I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years and when I finished that chapter in my life I continued to participate in all things sports.  Living in California, it is part of the lifestyle to be active and outside.

BUT, now as I start to realize that I will not be young forever I need to take care of myself.  I guess it is the fact that I see so many people with scooters, walkers, and canes that I want to do what I can to prevent this.  The best thing for me to do is make sure I get enough calcium every day.  As a dairy farmer, I should be shouting from the rooftops to drink a glass of milk with every meal.  WELL, that is not happening for a variety of reasons.  What has worked best for me is making sure I have a homemade Latte each day (LOTS of milk), shredded cheese with my dinner salad (a handful), and some cheese with lunch.  Usually I am on the move so these sources of calcium are really easy to fit into my day.

Remember, Calcium helps build and maintain strong bones.  It also plays an important role in nerve function, muscle contraction and blood clotting.  These are definitely things that are important to every person, active or not.
